Position Description

We are looking for a Senior Web (WordPress) Developer and experienced PHP developer whose main responsibility is managing back-end services and the interchange of data between the server and users. You will not only be responsible for developing visually appealing websites in line with UI UX best practices but also act as one of the technical leads. You will be responsible for both back-end and front-end development, including implementing WordPress themes, and WooCommerce, developing custom plugins, updating and extending existing plugins, site integrations, and instituting security measures.

Your focus will be the development of all server-side logic, definition and maintenance of the central database, and integrations ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from the front end. You will also be required to have an in-depth knowledge of front-end programming languages, a good eye for aesthetics, and strong content management skills.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Meet with clients to discuss website design and functionality.
  • Work alongside other developers and designers, discuss work and requirements and document in JIRA/Confluence/SharePoint.
  • Understand business requirements and convert them to a solution design.
  • Provide timely and accurate project timeline scopes to facilitate the management of a project.
  • Create the website architecture.
  • Design and build responsive websites and front end.
  • Code the design and functional aspects of the site together with other developers from the team
  • Build responsive WordPress websites according to the approved Figma design and layouts. All design assets to be extracted from Figma to build the website
  • WordPress Content management system (CMS) development, deployment and maintenance
  • Do code reviews and ensure a high standard of code quality.
  • Deploy your code to live environments.
  • Design and manage the website back-end including database and server integration.
  • Set up, implement and manage WordPress themes and plugins.
  • Conduct website performance optimisation, by conducting performance tests.
  • Troubleshoot content and site issues.
  • Monitor the performance of live sites and implement changes to keep the sites up-to-date and secure.
  • Setup and implementation of security settings and hack prevents
  • Backup and restore technologies for website files and DB
  • Documenting of customisations and processes
  • Follow and contribute to our internal standards and knowledge sharing philosophy
  • Keep up on the latest trends, technologies and best practices in web development
  • Work in an Agile, fast-paced environment that utilizes the Scrum framework which helps our team address complex adaptive problems, to productively and creatively deliver high-value products.

Qualifications and skills

  • Tertiary certification in computer science or a similar field
  • Strong experience in web development together with experience with server-side and client-side application development
  • Proven work experience as a WordPress/WooCommerce developer
  • Excellent command and experience using PHP and MySQL.
  • Knowledge of front-end technologies including CSS3, JavaScript, HTML5 and jQuery
    Knowledge of code versioning tools such as Git
  • Experience working with debugging tools.
  • Solid knowledge of WordPress functions, plugin API’s
  • Good understanding of website architecture and aesthetics
  • Ability to manage your own time and development between multiple projects and clients to meet deliverables.
  • A team player with strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail and results-oriented
